Wow, I really am the luckiest girl in town – this morning as I sleept Doka snuck out to the shop for some supplies and I awoke to him making breakfast. Fantastic way to start the day, as I sipped my coffee breakfast was prepared for me, this is the life! After 14 hour days at Seba Dizajn during the summer season we are now both enjoying a little lounging time.
Here’s what we had for breakfast;
these delicious wee parcels of goodness are great served with ….. CHEESE, our cheese of choice this morning was feta cheese, and a dollop of avjar – a Croatian staple made from capsicums, aubergienes, garlic and spices.
What’s your favourite breakfast? Leave your favourite foods to start the day below.
Either a full-on American buffet-style breakfast with corned beef hash, pancakes, bacon, potatoes, beans… Or a full English with eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding…
Mmmm My mouth is watering! Breakfast is definitely my favourite meal of the day – and my favourite meal to go out for!
I love going out for breakfast as well – it always seems so decadant to me. Pancakes and maple syrup, yum!
The only item I recognized was Feta! What is the ethnic origin of these foods? Fascinating…. Sunday is the only day we usually eat breakfast. Typically it’s omelets and perhaps some grits w/ bacon pieces and cheese.
Hi Carolina, the Lokuma has origins in SE Kosovo region. They are a family speciality, the baking soda makes them ideal for settling an upset stomach. Never had much luck with grits, are you somewhere in Southern states?
looks yummy breakfast menu, is that typical Crotian or Korkula?
I think different countries different breakfast menu so in Nepal I used to have cup of milk wadding some kind of energy powder like Viva, Milo or Bournvita with sweet breads cook in ghee ( kinda butter). BUt these days more conscious with health so taking wheat bread or Oat meal.
Hi Nabin, no just a speciality at our house!! The Lokuma originates somewhere in SE Kosovo, Doka’s Mum often makes them for breakfast, lucky me to have them made my Doka yesterday. Milo reminds me of growing up in NZ, a tasty breakfast drink or afterschool with lots of milk. Interesting how eating patterns are changing all over the world to include whole wheat options for bread, rice etc.
Sorry, but breakfast for me has to be sweet!
If I have time, it’s fresh rolls with homemade jam or chocolate spread (plus lots of coffee), if I don’t have time, it’s muesli with a banana or something similar.
All your suggestions sound great ….. for lunch or evening 🙂
No need to apologise!! We were on the sweet breakfast kick this morning, pancakes, jam, fruit and yoghurt. Yum! Mr Seba Dizajn also makes great pancakes, something i have never mastered and don’t intend to!
breakfast is my favorite meal of the day
usually with a hot cup of tea (or two or three)
i love it sweet as angelika mentioned it
toast, fresh buns, bagles – special buns (have to introduce you in berlin ruth)
jam, marmelade, chocolate spread, rübenkraut (sweet syrup from sugar beets)
fresh butter
biggest pleasure is breakfast in a restaurant with a huge buffet and friends to chat with.
Look forward to trying the ‘special buns’, also a fan of bagels & cream cheese, yum. So many delicious ways to start the day.
I love the look of your Croatian dishes – I love savoury breakfasts – something like wholegrain toast with thick slices of avocado and tomato and cracked black pepper, fresh orange juice and a good flat white coffee. I am often called upon to make crepes with lemon and sugar for breakfast … I like making them but prefer them for dessert with lots of whipped cream and sliced banana as well.
YUM! also love Avocado & tomato & fresh pepper combo to start my days.. will make some Lokuma for you when we visit, with your crepes for lunch!
