Goodbye Odd Ball

I am very happy to report that the ‘odd ball’ of my post earlier this week is now winging its way to Germany.  Fantastic!

Odd ball - goodbye.

There is something very satisfying about sharing objects of beauty with people who really appreciate them.  It is great that we have been able to find this small space, tear out the bar that was in here until mid April, find some stock and get our shop open in such a short space of time. I am really happy that we have managed to do this in Croatia as well, things take time here – all things! Polako, polako (slowly, slowly) is so commonly heard here, but I am yet to hear anyone uttering the word brzo (fast).

But, best of all must be our small jewellery table/workshop.  It is fantastic to have Adolf creating jewellery again after a break – we were in Scotland for most of last year, a month in Nepal and then 3 months with our family and friends in New Zealand.

I love to watch as the tiny filigree pieces are twirled, twisted, fired and beaten into something wonderful.  I constantly marvel at the patience and passion that is involved in creating each of the pieces that we have in our store.

We have had some wonderful customers & conversations this week.  For me part of the appeal of a retail space is the chance for interacting with people from all over the world.  I must be a people person, although friends will probably warn you to keep well away until I have had at least one morning coffee – maybe two.

It is great to share a snippet of the creation process with those that are interested.  I love to see the awe in children’s faces if Adolf  happens to be using fire to solder some pieces together.  Most of all I love the chance to share my lovely husbands fantastic skill & his passion for filigree/creating.

How’s the weather?

hahaha, sunny all the time, loving it!

One of our facebook fans suggested that I write a blog about the weather, not sure if she was serious or not, but Rachel J this one’s for you!

After about 10 Scottish ‘summers’ I am so happy to be experiencing a summer!

I am living in my flip flops/jandals and loving that too.  I am trying to swim in the sea everyday, it’s only 50m away so should be an achievable challenge.  We are eating fresh fruit & lots of salads (not having a kitchen is doable in the summer months)

Beautiful clear water for the daily dip

Would have to say, the weather’s GREAT – if you’re not convinced come on over!  We would love to see you.

Cheers
Ruth

Unique Handmade Silver Jewellery

Two Seba generations working together

Have been feeling a bit like a naughty school girl this last week or so – todays incoming emails said 30 Day Blog Challenge Day 19 – and here I am on Day 10.  Woops! Hence the double blogging for today…

I wish to reassure you that every piece of jewellery here at Seba Dizajn is a unique piece, each piece is hand made and all of our jewellery is silver.
We can guarantee you a piece that will be unique to you – we can even make something just for you if you let us know what you would like.

We currently have one piece heading to New Zealand and I can’t wait to hear from our customer there.  I am so convinced that she will love what Adolf has created specially for her, while at the same time a little anxious to hear from her.  Also a little anxious that her hand made silver jewel will be lost in the worlds postal system, that would be a sad thing – we do have many photos, but you cannae wear them!
I don’t want to spoil the surprise for our Hutt Valley customer but you can see below one of the pieces involved in her unique creation – I will post photos of the completed work once it has safely arrived in NZ.

Once again, thanks for stopping by and please leave your feedback below –  it would be great to hear from you.
Something extra special for someone extra special

Just write…..

Can I really write a blog about Filigree? Who will read it? Who wants to know about us and our new business here in Korcula?  And what shall I write about today?  What is SEO – Search Engine Optimisation, got that bit but how to achieve it? Oh dear…

So I went back to one of Nikki Pilkington’s first steps in her great 30 Day Blog Challenge.  ‘Just Write’ it said, and get used to the idea of writing.  So here I am, ‘just writing’ – it’s a humid afternoon in Korcula.  Both Adolf and I have had an afternoon swim and are looking forward to a busy evening here at Seba Dizajn… at least we hope we will have a busy evening.

It’s been a big challenge getting our business open in time for the tourist season here in Croatia, and now it feels like we are still waiting for the season to start.  Our friends with businesses here say that the season is very quiet and all report their sales as down 30-40% which is not ideal.  As newbies Adolf and I can report that business is up 100% – we only opened our store on 1 June.

After work last night we took a walk by the sea (with a bottle of red wine) and mused over the future.  How will the rest of the season pan out?  Will we find a new location for next year?  Will we be able to start a business in New Zealand (where I am from) in the future? When will we have a home with a kitchen??

So many things to contemplate.  I have great faith in Seba Dizajn and our concept here, 100% unique and handcrafted silver jewellery, made here in our store, what’s not to like? Alongside of our slowly growing collection of stunning Seba jewels we have a small selection of other goods…. We have selected a few fine Croatian made products and have a small selection of Fair Trade products from Nepal.

And for those of you who are reading and not lucky enough to be in Korcula, YES, we do post worldwide.

Thanks again for your interest and support.

Hot stuff

Odd ball - can you spot the difference?

Korcula is HOT! The temperature has averaged 35 degrees this last week & we are loving it.  Most of all we are loving the second hand air conditioning unit we found for Seba Dizajn – am sure we would have melted by now if not for this welcome addition.

Today Adolf has been working on a brand new ball…. a little different this time, each ball/bead is unique but our latest addition is different again.
